Society
Inca Society
At the top of Inca society was the emperor, the Sapa Inca (His title meant unique Inca). The Incas believed their ruler was descended from the sun god and he was treated with great respect. Visitors had to remove their footwear if they approached the Sapa Inca and they had to carry a burden on their back to show their respect for him! When he travelled the Sapa Inca was carried in a litter. He was on the top of the social classes.
Below the Sapa Inca, in the second social class, were all of his family members, which is seen in many kingdoms today! The son of the Sapa Inca was the top dog, then came the Sapa Incas wife, and lastly was all of his first generation royal relatives.
In the third social class were other royal relatives of the Sapa Inca. The Sapa Inca may not have liked these relatives as much, or they were very distant cousins. There were also people who had an education in this class or that could medically operate on someone.
At the bottom of Inca society were the craftsmen and farmers (regular people). There were also people of newly conquered races in this class, and servers of the Incan Empire, including prisoners.
