Monarchy Government of the Incas
The Incan society had a monarchy as a government. The rulers of Incan civilization were dynasties or royal families. Their ruler was called an emperor, or they were called Sapa Inca. The high priest, governors, and generals were important members of the royal council. Most members of that council would consist of the emperors family members. Emperors almost always married their own sisters. Tax requirements were high. Women were expected to weave a certain amount of cloth, while men had to mine or serve in their army. Commoners paid taxes. If they couldn't pay they'd pay with thier services. They could also pay with their yearly crop. Incan cities were occupied with government administrators. Because the Incan empire was so big there was no central government. The states were filled with the royal council. The laws were made by the Sapa Inca and passed down to the people through the tax collectors. Murder, stealing, cheating on taxes, and cursing the gods was all against the law. There wasn't much crime in the Incan empire though. This was mainly because the punisments were very harsh. One example would be they would get their hand cut off for stealing. Every state had it's own tax collector. Tax collectors made sure that the commoners would not skip out on their tax payments to the royal family.
The Emperor
The Incas treated their emperor like a God. They did everything they possibly could for him. In turn when an emperor died the Incan people thought they eternally became a God himself.
